ADC Directs Intensification of AntiDrug Campaign Emphasis Also Placed on Road Safety

Una, March 31: Mahendra Pal Gurjar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Una, has directed all departments to work with seriousness and accountability to prevent road accidents and effectively curb drug-related activities within the district. He stated that coordinated efforts, coupled with strict enforcement measures, must be ensured in this regard so that society can be provided with a safe and secure environment.
Presiding over the meetings of the District-Level Coordination Committee and the District Road Safety Committee—held on Tuesday at the DRDA Auditorium under the aegis of the National Narcotics Coordination Portal (N-CORD)—the ADC urged officials to accelerate the anti-drug campaign with greater momentum. He directed the Police Department to expedite actions under the NDPS Act and instructed every Station House Officer (SHO) to ensure concrete results in their respective jurisdictions, in alignment with pre-determined targets. He emphasized that the impact of these actions should be evident not only in statistical data but also at the grassroots level, and called for a regular review of these efforts.
The ADC noted that, given its status as a border district, Una requires heightened vigilance and alertness regarding drug-related cases. Describing drug abuse as a grave challenge facing society, he asserted that tackling this issue is a shared responsibility of both the administration and the community.
Emphasizing the need to ensure active participation at the Panchayat level, he directed the Drug Prevention Committees to hold regular meetings. He also issued instructions to launch special initiatives and targeted awareness campaigns in the 10 sensitive Panchayats most affected by the menace of 'Chitta' (heroin). Additionally, he stressed the importance of raising awareness among school students regarding the adverse effects of drug abuse.
The ADC directed that drug prevention and rehabilitation centers be inspected regularly, instructing the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to ensure effective oversight of these facilities. He further directed that demarcation and boundary verification be completed within two weeks for all cases involving encroachment on government property.
During the meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, the ADC called for the identification of accident-prone "black spots" and directed that immediate remedial measures be implemented at these locations. He also issued instructions to ensure that the railings currently being installed along the National Highway are completed in strict adherence to prescribed standards, and that no unsafe gaps are left anywhere along the stretch. Expressing strong displeasure over the absence of certain officials from the meetings, the Additional Deputy Commissioner stated that remaining absent from meetings concerning serious matters reflects negligence. He directed that explanations be sought from the absent officials and issued a stern warning that such conduct would not be tolerated in the future.
During the meeting, Additional Superintendent of Police Surendra Sharma provided details regarding the actions being taken by the police under the NDPS Act.
