SAS Nagar, February 27, 2026: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development), Ms. Sonam Chaudhary, today administered the oath of office to 52 newly elected Block Samiti members of Kharar, Majri and Dera Bassi at the District Administrative Complex. She urged all members to forget the factionalism witnessed during the elections and work collectively for the development and welfare of villages.
During the ceremony, the members pledged to discharge their duties honestly and sincerely within the constitutional framework.
MLA Derabassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa was present as a special guest. Congratulating the newly elected members, he said that the Block Samiti plays a vital role in preparing and implementing development plans at the village level. He emphasized that members should rise above party lines and work without discrimination in key sectors such as education, health, sanitation, drinking water and infrastructure development.
He also appealed to the women members elected to the Block Samiti to understand their responsibilities and take the lead in performing their duties independently so that they become self-reliant.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ms. Sonam Chaudhary stated that Panchayati Raj Institutions are the backbone of rural development and play a central role in implementing government welfare schemes at the grassroots level. She stressed that transparency, accountability and teamwork are essential to accelerate development works and called upon members to work in coordination with the administration.
She further urged the newly elected members to prioritize ensuring that the benefits of schemes related to rural infrastructure development, employment generation and social security reach the eligible beneficiaries.
Among others DDPO Mohali Parmbeer Kaur, BDPO Kharar Mehakmeet Singh and BDPO Majri Rajvinder Singh were also present. The newly elected members assured that they would work with full dedication for the overall development of their respective areas.
