A great initiative for a safe environment for vulnerable witnesses
Hoshiarpur:- In an important initiative to make the judicial process more sensitive, safe and victim-friendly, the Vulnerable Witness Deposition Center was inaugurated today in the District Judicial Complex, Hoshiarpur. This center was inaugurated by Justice Meenakshi I. Mehta, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Administrative Judge of the Division. District and Sessions Judge Hoshiarpur Rajinder Agarwal was also specially present on this occasion. On reaching the judicial complex, a guard of honour was given to them by a contingent of Punjab Police.
Justice Meenakshi I. Mehta said that the objective of establishing this center is to provide facility to witnesses in sensitive cases, especially women, children and victims belonging to weaker sections, to record their statements in a safe, respectful and stress-free environment. The centre has been equipped with modern audio-video recording system, measures to ensure confidentiality and a psychologically conducive environment, so that witnesses can give their statements without any fear or pressure.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Justice Meenakshi I Mehta said that making the justice system more humane is the need of the hour and such centres play an important role in strengthening the confidence of the victims. District and Sessions Judge Rajinder Agarwal said that this facility will help in making the judicial process more effective, transparent and sensitive.
