
District level road safety committee meeting held
Una, December 10: The meeting of the district level road safety committee was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal. In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner has given instructions to strictly follow the road safety law in Una district. He asked to work with an integrated approach to make the roads safe, encroachment-free and traffic risk-free in the district.
Una, December 10: The meeting of the district level road safety committee was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal. In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner has given instructions to strictly follow the road safety law in Una district. He asked to work with an integrated approach to make the roads safe, encroachment-free and traffic risk-free in the district. He also directed the concerned departments to take pre-corrective steps to reduce accidents and ensure strict compliance of traffic rules. He said that strict action should be taken against those driving vehicles over speed and carelessly.
Instructions for repairing black spots
The Deputy Commissioner directed all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Police and Public Works Department officers to establish mutual coordination and identify accident prone spots and black spots in their respective areas and improve them. He has also directed to submit a progress report along with photographs of the steps taken in this regard in the upcoming Road Safety meeting. Apart from this, CCTV cameras and crash barriers, parapets, light reflectors and speed breakers should be installed as per requirement at accident prone spots. The Deputy Commissioner also directed to make the roads encroachment free and remove illegal hawkers.
Referring to the horrific oil tanker accident that took place at Tahliwal, he also directed to install safety measures like CCTV cameras, signage, crash barriers, reflectors and speed breakers etc. at the accident site so that such accidents do not recur in the future.
Instructions for regular inspection of school vehicles
The DC has instructed all SDMs to inspect school vehicles from time to time. He said that fitness of school vehicles and compliance of traffic rules by drivers and presence of conductors in buses should be ensured. Strict action should be taken against those who violate traffic rules. All SDMs were asked to hold meetings with private school operators in their jurisdiction and ensure proper arrangements.
A small square will be constructed at Santoshgarh, Amb and Old Hoshiarpur Road junction near the Mini Secretariat as there is a possibility of accident at this intersection. Signage will also be installed at the square so that uninterrupted traffic can be maintained and accidents can also be curbed. He directed to improve the Ajouli turn barrier and other accident prone spots.
Crowds should not gather in MC and Rotary Chowk in the morning
Taking cognizance of the problem of crowd due to a large number of migrant labourers gathering on the road in front of MC Park and Rotary Chowk every morning, the Deputy Commissioner asked to maintain proper order here. A place away from the road should be decided for people to stand so that people do not gather on the road.
