Shravasti, March 4- A case has been registered against a man from Ikauna area of ??the city for allegedly attempting religious conversion. Officials said the accused Harish Singh is currently absconding. Police said Singh has been living in Punjab's Ludhiana for the past few years and often visited Bhagwanpur Banktwa Lonpurwa village.
"He was in the village recently and was allegedly conducting sessions in a hut in the name of Jesus Christ to cure diseases. Most of the people present were from outside the village," said Superintendent of Police (SP) Ghanshyam Chaurasia.
He told PTI that the police conducted the investigation based on the video provided by Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists. The activists had alleged illegal religious conversion.
Chaurasia said that after this, a case was registered against Singh under sections 3 and 5 of the Uttar Pradesh Unlawful Conversion Act, 2021. Chaurasia said that Singh may have fled to Punjab, but a police team will be sent there. He added that given the proximity of Sravasti to the Nepal border, the authorities are also monitoring the area to prevent him from escaping across the border.
