Chandigarh, May 14- Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring strongly condemned the remark made by Madhya Pradesh BJP leader and minister Vijay Shah about Colonel Sofia Qureshi, in which an attempt was made to link her religious identity with Pakistanis and terrorists.
In a statement issued here, Raja Warring alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not only trying to take credit for the victories achieved by our defense forces but its leaders are also attempting to poison the atmosphere of unity and harmony in a communal manner because it does not suit the BJP’s politics.
He said that the BJP is shocked by the unity and integrity shown by the people of the country, regardless of their religious beliefs or political ideologies. Such an atmosphere is shameful for a party that thrives on communal poison. He alleged that the BJP leader’s disgusting and condemnable statement was issued deliberately and under the instructions of his party.
He stated that the entire country is proud of Colonel Sofia Qureshi for the way she defended the nation and its armed forces during recent hostilities. Warring said it is a strange coincidence that the people of Pakistan and some BJP leaders are saying similar things.
The Congress parliamentarian questioned why the BJP has not taken any action against Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah. He should be removed from his ministerial post, and a case should be registered against him under strict provisions. Warring said that by making this remark, Shah has not only insulted a respected officer but also an entire community that stood with our defense forces in the fight against the enemy.
