Chetan Singh Jaudamajra said that mushroom producers are making an important contribution in the crop diversification campaign of the state. He said that due to the high consumption of this crop, this occupation is also very profitable.
On this occasion, the mushroom producers told the minister that about 200 small and big units produce mushrooms in the state. Apart from this, many farmers are also cultivating mushrooms in an unorganized manner. He said that since they cultivate mushrooms, the mushroom units should be included in the agricultural occupation. He said that the production of mushrooms becomes very difficult during the summer season and other costs including electricity supply also increase.
The Horticulture Minister instructed the officials that the mushroom growers are not manufacturing any product in their units but only cultivating mushrooms, hence the need to redefine this occupation. Similarly, the situation should also be made clear to the Department of Labour, Factories and Weights and Measures so that mushroom growers do not face any problem. He assured the mushroom growers that concerted efforts will be made to solve their problems.
The Cabinet Minister also ordered to convene a meeting of the officials of labour, factories and weights and measures departments for quick resolution of the problems of mushroom growers. During the meeting, Director Industry and Commerce Mr. Puneet Goyal, Director Horticulture Mrs. Shalindar Kaur, PSPCL. Deputy Chief Mr. Damanjit Singh Toor, Horticulture Development Officer Mrs. Amanpreet Kaur and other officers were present.
