
Last date for nominations for Padma Awards-2026 extended to August 15, 2025;
Chandigarh, July 30 - The Government of India has extended the last date for submission of nominations/recommendations for Padma Awards from July 31, 2025 to August 15, 2025. Nominations/recommendations for these awards will be received online only on the National Awards Portal (https://awards.gov.in). The nomination process for Padma Awards-2026, to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2026, began on March 15, 2025.

Nominations/recommendations for these awards will be received online only on the National Awards Portal (https://awards.gov.in). The nomination process for Padma Awards-2026, to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2026, began on March 15, 2025.
A government spokesperson while giving information in this regard said that the Padma Awards, i.e. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, are among the highest civilian honours of the country. Established in the year 1954, these awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day. Under these awards, outstanding work is honored.
Padma Awards are given for special and extraordinary achievements/service in all fields/subjects like art, literature and education, education, medicine, social service, science and engineering, public works, civil service, trade and industry etc. All persons are eligible for these awards without any discrimination of caste, profession, rank or sex.
Government servants other than doctors and scientists, including government servants working in public sector enterprises, are not eligible for Padma Awards.
He further said that the Government of India is committed to making the Padma Awards a People's Padma. Finally, all citizens have been appealed to nominate/recommend. Citizens can also nominate themselves. A concerted effort may be made to identify such talented individuals from among women, weaker sections of the society, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Persons with Disabilities and those rendering selfless service to the society whose excellence and achievements are currently worthy of recognition.
The spokesperson said that the nominations/recommendations should contain all relevant details as directed in the format available on the portal, which should include a citation (maximum 800 words), clearly describing the special and extraordinary achievements/services of the recommended person in the relevant field/discipline.
