Ahmedabad, June 13 - The bodies of six deceased were handed over to their families after identification on Friday, a day after the fatal plane crash in the city, Ahmedabad police said. The police said it would take about 72 hours to complete the process of matching the DNA samples of the other bodies, which are partially or completely decomposed.
Police Inspector Chirag Gosai said that out of the 265 bodies brought to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for postmortem on Thursday, six victims have been identified as their faces were intact. He said DNA profiling is being done to identify the others as their bodies are unrecognizable and badly decomposed.
"The relatives of 215 deceased have contacted us to give their samples for DNA testing," he said. Details are collected from relatives arriving at the postmortem room and then the DNA samples are sent to BJ Medical College for relatives to give. Gosai said, "It will take about 72 hours to complete the process of matching the DNA samples. Once the match is done, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives from the postmortem room."
