Amritsar, May 19 - The Indian Army has claimed to have foiled possible missile and drone attacks by Pakistan on various cities of Punjab, including the Golden Temple in Amritsar, during Operation Sindoor with the help of the strong defense system of the Indian Air Force. The Army showed the media the wreckage of Pakistani missiles and drones, which were destroyed by the Indian Air Force in mid-air.
Major General Kartik C. Sheshadhari, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Infantry Division, said, "On April 22, the Pakistan Army, through its trained terrorists, attacked unarmed tourists in Pahalgam, which is known to the whole world. After this, amidst the anger that erupted across the country, India launched Operation Sindoor under strong leadership.’’
He said that under Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army only targeted terror camps and did not harm any civilian or military base during this. But on the night of May 7, information was received from Pakistan that its army was planning to target religious places, especially the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Major General Sheshadhari said, ‘‘Pakistan’s intention was to attack the Golden Temple with missiles and drones. As soon as we got solid information, we immediately took action and deployed modern air defense systems like Akash missile system and L-70 air defense guns. We did not allow a single missile or drone to come towards the Golden Temple.’’
He further warned, ‘‘If Pakistan again resorts to terrorists, they will have to face serious consequences. Operation Sindoor has only been postponed, not ended. The next phase of this will be more decisive and comprehensive.
The damaged missiles and drones shown by the Indian Army were proof that Indian preparations are strong at all levels and are capable of giving a befitting reply to any Pakistani provocation.
Meanwhile, an Indian Army jawan said, “Currently, we are part of Operation Sindoor. On the night of May 8-9, the enemy suddenly fired at us and attempted to infiltrate. We fired accurately at the enemy and foiled his attempt to infiltrate.
The result of our firing was that by morning, the enemy came to his knees and hoisted a white flag at his post. We assure our countrymen that as long as the Indian Army is deployed on the country’s borders, no country can look at us with a raised eye.”
