Stock market gains in early trade

Mumbai: Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rose in early trade on Wednesday after retail inflation hit a near six-year low of 3.16 per cent in April. The 30-share BSE benchmark gauge Sensex rose 281.43 points to 81,429.65 in early trade. At the same time, the NSE Nifty rose 96.65 points to 24,675.

The 30-share BSE benchmark gauge Sensex rose 281.43 points to 81,429.65 in early trade. At the same time, the NSE Nifty rose 96.65 points to 24,675.
Among the Sensex firms, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Eternal, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv and Reliance Industries were the top gainers. Telecom operator Bharti Airtel rose over 2 per cent after reporting a nearly five-fold increase in consolidated net profit for the March 2025 quarter.
However, Tata Motors, Asian Paints, Nestle and IndusInd Bank were among the laggards. Tata Motors fell over 1 per cent after reporting a 51 per cent decline in consolidated net profit for the March quarter. Meanwhile, the rupee rose 31 paise to 85.05 against the US dollar in early trade.
