Chandigarh- On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day, the Department of Transfusion Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Thalassemic Charitable Trust, will organise a Mega Blood Donation Camp on May 8, 2025, from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Community Centre behind Gole Market, PGIMER.
The event will be formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh, and will be attended by senior administrative officials, faculty members of PGIMER, State Bank officials and prominent philanthropists. The initiative aims to raise awareness about thalassemia and aid patients battling the condition by ensuring a steady supply of blood.
Dr. (Prof.) RR Sharma, Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and Mr. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassemic Charitable Trust emphasized the importance of regular blood donation.
He informed that thalassemia is a chronic blood disorder in which patients require lifelong blood transfusions, making donated blood their lifeline. The camp also aims to help other critically ill patients in need of blood in hospitals across the tricity.
Both Dr Sharma and Mr Kalra appealed to voluntary blood donors, social organisations and religious groups to come forward and contribute to this life-saving cause. With the demand for blood constantly rising, especially for thalassemic and other critically ill patients, this initiative aims to bridge that gap and provide timely assistance.
The organisers underlined the important message: “Your blood donation can save precious lives.” For more information or to volunteer, individuals and organisations are encouraged to connect with the Thalassemic Charitable Trust or the Department of Transfusion Medicine at PGIMER.
