Chandigarh, May 4, 2025: The Global Sikh Council has supported the appeal of Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Amritsar Sahib, urging all Sikh preachers including Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala to come together under the umbrella of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to revive the mission of propagating Sikhism across the country and encourage spirituality within the Khalsa Panth.
In a statement here, Council President Lady Singh Kanwaljit Kaur, Chairman Religious Affairs Committee Dr. Karminder Singh, Chairman Legal Affairs Committee Jagir Singh and Council Secretary Harjeet Singh described the Jathedar’s effort as “the need of the hour and a timely religious initiative” to arrest the declining trend of Sikhism in Punjab and other states. The Global Sikh Council has requested the Jathedar to similarly call upon all those influential and committed preachers who have been turned away from service due to decisions such as expulsion from the Panth by the Akal Takht Sahib earlier.
He said that this is not the time to create discrimination, separation or division but to bring about sensible community unity and Gurmat-based Panthic unity. He said that Sri Akal Takht Sahib, being the centre of temporal, religious and spiritual supremacy of the Khalsa Panth, should forgive, embrace and strive for the progress of the community according to the principles of Gurmat.
The Council has argued that due to serious decline in Gurmat and Gurbani preaching, religious interest among the youth is declining and conversions among Sikhs are on the rise. The practice of expulsion from the Panth has been adopted from the concept prevalent in the Christian tradition and has nothing to do with the ancient Sikh code of conduct. Therefore, in Guru Sikhi, 'Sarbat da Bhala' (good for all) should be the source of inspiration for every action.
Pradhan Kanwaljit Kaur stressed that the Council has member organizations in more than 30 countries who are ready to provide all kinds of support to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and preachers can be sent to the work of service by giving them spiritual and intellectual training to propagate the humanitarian Guru message of Guru Sahiban. She said that at this time the Khalsa Panth should work in unison and unity. This is not the time to create divisions, but to create a new wave of Gurmat propagation through shared thinking.
Reiterating the concept of Panthic unity, Gurmat-based dialogue and the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Global Sikh Council has appealed to all Sikh leaders to rise above their old differences in view of the wider interests of the community and accept all the preachers and leaders engaged in the service of the community so that with unity the propagation of Guru Sikhi, Gurmat and Gurbani can be strengthened in its true sense across the country.
