Mistakes, negligence and ignorance (lack of training / practice) can cause fire due to leakage of gases, short circuit of electricity, sparking in vehicles or spillage of petrol oil. Fire extinguisher cylinders are not kept in 99 percent of vehicles, houses and shops. Now gases are reaching everywhere through gas pipes. By the time the fire brigade vehicles reach, a lot of damage has already been done.
Fire causes huge loss of life through gas, smoke and electric current. This information was given by Disaster Management, Civil Defence, First Aid Fire Safety Instructor of Government of India, Mr. Kaka Ram to the nursing students at Rajindra Hospital. He said that apart from doctors, nurses and other staff members, fire safety training and mock drills should also be conducted for nearby shopkeepers, dhabas and drivers. Uninterrupted electricity, oxygen, gases and machines are used in hospitals.
He explained the types of fire and the ways to extinguish it using water, soil, starving the fire, cylinders etc. He gave information about its use and saving patients. Kaka Ram Verma said that most of the deaths are due to suffocation caused by smoke and gases. To save lives and save the victims, lie down on the ground with a wet handkerchief on the nose and mouth. By lying down, people can avoid dying, because smoke and gases do not enter the respiratory tract.
Fire accidents cannot be prevented only by installing cylinders and other systems, ensure proper use of cylinders, training, practice and mock drills on cylinders and types of fire should be conducted 2-3 times a year. Information should be given on the use of first aid, CPR, ventilator, respiratory support and helpline numbers. 8 types of disaster management teams should be formed. Medical superintendent, principal, teachers and students expressed their gratitude.
