Dr. Sahib completed his studies by removing the atrocities of untouchability and casteism from his village. In 1927 he intensified his struggle against untouchability and casteism and at Mahad in Raigad, Maharashtra, he burnt the old copy of Mannu Smriti and called for continuing the struggle against it. He became the first labour minister of the country, he took many legal steps including job and land rights for Dalits.
He called upon the Dalit community of the country to organise themselves under the slogan of "Read, Join, Struggle" because though the Constitution has legal rights for the emancipation of the toiling people of the country, these rights can be implemented only after they get organised.
IFTU District President Gurdayal Rakkad said that IFTU will celebrate International Labour Day on May 1 at the district level at Vishwakarma Mandir, Rahon Road, Nawanshahr. On this occasion, Azad Rangmanch Phagwara will present a play based on the life and struggles of Dr Ambedkar.
