The Centre has issued a notification to conduct the census
----The Government of India has announced that the next census of the country will be conducted in the year 2027. For this, a notification has been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. In most parts of the country, the midnight of March 1, 2027 will be considered as the base date for the census. However, in cold and snowy regions like Ladakh, some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, this date has been fixed as October 1, 2026. This decision has been taken in view of the difficult weather conditions for these regions.
This new notification has been implemented by canceling the old order issued in 2019. This initiative of the government will collect important data for the population, socio-economic status and plans of the country, which will help in policy formulation. With the issuance of the notification, the census has also formally begun. This is the 16th census since the census process began in 1872, while it is the 8th census after independence.
Census to be conducted in two phases in 2027
The census to be conducted in 2027 will be conducted in two phases like the census conducted in 2011. The first phase is called house listing or house count. In this, information related to the condition of each family's house, the facilities available in it and the assets will be collected. After this, the second phase will be the census, in which the demographic (such as age, gender), socio-economic (such as education, employment), cultural and other important information of the person living in each house will be obtained.
This two-phase process will give the government a complete picture of the country's population and standard of living, which will make it easier to make plans and formulate policies.
