
No new tax imposed after the formation of Municipal Corporation - Municipal Corporation Commissioner
Una, February 28- After the formation of Municipal Corporation, various types of misconceptions and misleading news are coming out regarding house tax and property tax, which are completely baseless. Municipal Corporation Una Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar clarified in a press conference held on Friday that no new tax has been imposed in the Municipal Corporation area. Tax is being collected only as per the property tax rates applicable in the former Municipal Council Una.
Una, February 28- After the formation of Municipal Corporation, various types of misconceptions and misleading news are coming out regarding house tax and property tax, which are completely baseless. Municipal Corporation Una Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar clarified in a press conference held on Friday that no new tax has been imposed in the Municipal Corporation area. Tax is being collected only as per the property tax rates applicable in the former Municipal Council Una.
The Commissioner said that for the convenience of the citizens, the Municipal Corporation has made a provision that the taxpayers who will pay their bills between March 1 and 15 will be given a discount of 10 to 15 percent.
He said that the property tax rates had already been fixed by the former Municipal Council and the same system is currently in force. These rates were also published in the gazette of the Himachal Pradesh Government in the year 2023. He appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours and contact the Municipal Corporation office for accurate information.
The Commissioner informed that mapping of each house has been done through drone survey in Una city. In this process, complete information about their land and houses was taken from the citizens, on the basis of which house tax bills are being issued. He clarified that this tax is already applicable only on the former Municipal Council area and it has no effect on the new corporation areas.
There will be no impact on development works
Mr Gurjar informed that 13 panchayats adjoining the former Municipal Council area have been fully and 1 panchayat partially included in the Municipal Corporation. He assured that there will be no interruption in the funding and payment of development works going on under Convergence and MNREGA in the Panchayats included in the Corporation. All the development works approved earlier will continue as before, however, approval of new projects will not be given at present.
Panchayat or Municipal Corporation...People have both the options to get birth, marriage and death certificates
The Commissioner said that both the options are available to the citizens regarding marriage, birth and death certificates. These certificates are being issued through the concerned Panchayats as before, apart from this people can also get them in the Municipal Corporation.
Work of making inventory of properties started
Apart from this, he informed that Panchayat Secretaries have been instructed to prepare the inventory of movable and immovable properties in their area. This inventory will be transferred to the Municipal Corporation through the Deputy Commissioner, the work of which has been started.
