S. Chaman Singh (Project Director) while addressing the villagers first told about the establishment of Red Cross. He said that drug addiction is now a big problem all over the world. Where young people are going towards drugs all over the world, in these days girls are also going into the swamp of drugs.
He said that in these days young youth are getting involved in drugs knowingly or unknowingly or out of passion. Today children studying in schools are also getting addicted to drugs. More and more Punjabi youth are getting addicted to drugs by injecting heroin. Due to which the future of Punjabi youth is in danger. We need to pay special attention to our children who are studying in schools. We also need to make older youth aware about drugs. So that the youth can stay away from drugs.
He said that we should connect our children with history so that children can stay away from social evils like drugs. He said that many people also start taking the help of drugs due to the problems they face in life which is very dangerous for our health. Due to this habit, people are getting addicted to drugs, later it becomes very difficult for them to quit drugs. Therefore, drugs are not the solution to any problem.
Mrs. Kamaljit Kaur (Councillor) also shared detailed information about the treatment of patients at the Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Drug Abusers, Nawanshahr, that any drug addict can get free treatment by staying there for a month as per his wish. Since addiction cannot be stopped by staying at home, it is necessary to reach out to psychiatrists and drug detoxification centers to quit addiction.
