Rajpura- People of village Jangpura near Rajpura opposed the construction of Dashmesh Canal. Giving information about this, the farmers of the village said that during the survey being conducted in Banur area by the Punjab Canal and Water Resources Department through the State Social Impact Assessment Department of Punjab University regarding the proposal of Dashmesh Canal to provide water for farming to the farmers of Patiala, Rupnagar and Mohali districts, the survey team reached village Jangpura today where the people of Jangpura opposed the proposal of the canal.
A Gram Sabha was called by village Jangpura in which a proposal not to build the canal was passed and this proposal was handed over to the survey team from the university. The people of the village held a big meeting and opposed the construction of Dashmesh Canal and said that no farmer of village Jangpura will give his land for this Dashmesh Canal.
Farmers say that firstly they already have very little land, if this canal passes through the village then all the land of the farmers will be submerged in this canal, secondly this canal is being built much higher than the fields.
Due to which there will be a danger of water entering the village, due to which along with the crops, the houses built in the villages will also come under the grip of this water, hence this canal will not be allowed to be built at any cost. If the government uses force then a strong front will be opened against it too.
