Absconding Patwari arrested by Vigilance Bureau in bribery case

Nawanshahr- In the ongoing drive against corruption in the state, Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Vipin Kumar, a Patwari posted in Revenue Halqa Nawanshahr-1, who was absconding for three weeks in a bribery case. In this case, Rampal, assistant to the Patwari, was arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for him (Patwari).

Nawanshahr- In the ongoing drive against corruption in the state, Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Vipin Kumar, a Patwari posted in Revenue Halqa Nawanshahr-1, who was absconding for three weeks in a bribery case. In this case, Rampal, assistant to the Patwari, was arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for him (Patwari).
Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said that the case was registered on the basis of a complaint by a resident of Nai Abadi area of ??Nawanshahr in SBS Nagar district. The complainant had alleged to the Vigilance Bureau that the said Patwari Vipin Kumar had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for registering the mutation of his ancestral house. According to the Patwari, the complainant had given an advance amount of Rs 2,000 to Rampal, agent of the Patwari. When further pressure was exerted for the remaining amount, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau for help.
The spokesperson further informed that after preliminary investigation of the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap on February 14, 2025 and caught Rampal red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. Meanwhile, Patwari Vipan Kumar managed to escape from the spot evading arrest. Since then, the Vigilance Bureau was conducting raids at his house and other hideouts, which finally led to his arrest.
In this regard, the Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against both the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Jalandhar Range Police Station. The arrested Patwari has been sent to police custody for one day by the court and further investigation in the case is underway.
