Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, October 30, 2024: District Administration Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has appealed to the residents of the district to avoid loud and smoke emitting firecrackers and fireworks to celebrate safe and pollution free Diwali.
Deputy Commissioner Ms. Ashika Jain wished the residents of the district on Diwali, Bandi-Chhor Divas and Vishwakarma Divas and said that Diwali is a festival associated with happiness and religious traditions and is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country. But in the present times, linking it only with firecrackers has also started to endanger human life and environmental protection, on which some restrictions have been imposed on the use of firecrackers by the Hon'ble High Court and the National Green Tribunal, in which detailed instructions have also been issued on the use of low-noise and non-special chemicals firecrackers.
He has appealed to all the residents of the district to celebrate the festival in the light of these instructions and said that according to these instructions, the manufacture, stock, distribution, sale and use of stringed firecrackers (series firecrackers or lorries) will be banned in the entire state. Only green firecrackers (firecrackers that do not contain a mixture of barium salt or antimony, lithium, mercury, arsenic, lead or strontium chromate) will be allowed for sale and use. No licensee shall store, display or sell any firecracker whose decibel level is not within the permissible limit.

According to these instructions, on Diwali, October 31, fireworks/crackers will be allowed only from 8 pm to 10 pm.

On the day of Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on November 15, fireworks/crackers will be allowed only from 4 am to 5 am and from 9 pm to 10 pm.

On Christmas, on December 25 and 26, fireworks will be allowed only from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.

From the beginning of the new year, from December 31, 2024 to January 01, 2025, fireworks will be allowed only from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.

He further informed that while a special advisory has been issued by the Health Department to celebrate a safe Diwali, emergency services will continue to deal with any accident caused by firecrackers on Diwali.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Renu Singh said that in view of the way pollution is increasing continuously in the environment today, one should avoid burning crackers. She said that burning crackers spoils the weather, which can be harmful to health. Emphasizing the need to celebrate a safe Diwali, Dr. Renu Singh said that if crackers are to be burst then caution should be taken. It is important to take special care of the eyes and water buckets and soil bags should also be kept within easy reach. Apart from this, small children should be kept away from fireworks and parents should also be present with the children. Silk and loose clothes should not be worn while bursting crackers but cotton clothes should be worn. Crackers should never be fired by hand and one should not try to fire crackers again without firing them. She said that the Health Department is committed to a safe and environment-friendly Diwali. While emergency services will remain normal day and night in all the major health institutions of the district during Diwali, special duty of doctors and other staff has been imposed to provide immediate medical assistance in case of any untoward incident. He said that Diwali is a symbol of mutual love, happiness and unity, so everyone should celebrate this festival with the same spirit and also take care of their health and environment. He said that every city dweller should plant at least one tree in or around his house on the day of Diwali.
