
FIRs lodged under the SC/ST Act must be investigated by DSP Level IO, ADC to Police Officials
SAS Nagar, September 11, 2024:- Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sonam Chaudhary today insisted upon the mass awareness of the provisions made under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 so that the victims can approach the District Social Justice, Empowerment office, DAC Mohali.
SAS Nagar, September 11, 2024:- Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sonam Chaudhary today insisted upon the mass awareness of the provisions made under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 so that the victims can approach the District Social Justice, Empowerment office, DAC Mohali.
Today chairing a review meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee (under the SC/ST Act), she reviewed the cases regarding the SC/ST Act so that the compensation could be disbursed as per the provisions of the Act.
She insisted upon abiding by the provisions of the Act, if any such case is registered in the police station, the Investigating Officer must be a DSP-level officer.
Additional Deputy Commissioner said that while FIR lodged under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, the victim/family members must be apprised of the provision of monetary compensations as per the gravity of crime at respective stages (e.g. in Murder total compensation is 8.25 lakh) under the act and to whom they have to contact.
The District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Aashish Kathuria was asked to ensure better coordination with police and District attorney so that compensation may be disbursed to all the victims on time.
The meeting was attended by the District Attorney Sukhdev Singh, DSP from district police NPS Lehal, GM DIC Arshjit Singh and other members.
