9th Senior National Gatka Championship Concludes with Khalsa Glory
SAS Nagar, December 31:-The 9th Senior National Gatka Championship dedicated to the 350th martyrdom centenary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, organized by Gatka Federation of India at Ratwara Sahib, has concluded with Khalsa glory. During the closing ceremony of this championship, former Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi and Baba Lakhbir Singh Ji participated as chief guests.
Giving information in this regard, General Secretary of Gatka Federation of India, S. Baljinder Singh Toor, said that in the Senior National Gatka Championship held from December 28 to 30, five hundred players from twenty states of India participated and showcased their Gatka skills. In these competitions, the Punjab team secured the overall first position with 184 points. Chandigarh stood second with 51 points and Delhi third with 49 points.
On this occasion, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that Gatka is the traditional sport of Sikhs which is now reaching new heights, and in the coming times, efforts will be initiated to promote it at the global level by talking to the central government.
The chief guest of the championship, President of Punjab Gatka Association, S. Rajinder Singh Sohal, thanked the arrived chief guests, coaches, and players. He said that Gatka sport has been given a standard form and he is committed and striving to take Gatka sport to higher levels.
At the end, the winning players were honored with medals. On this occasion, Vice President of Punjab Gatka Association Arshad Dali, Davinder Singh Jugni, Joint Secretary Madam Jagkiran Kaur Waraich, Akwinder Singh Gosal, Baba Harpal Singh, Baba Sukhwinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh Pabla, Rajvir Singh, Harmanjot Singh, Raghubir Singh Dehal, Gurlal Singh Bhikhiwind, etc., were present.
