91 STPs operational in Haryana to make Yamuna pollution Chief Minister

Chandigarh, April 24:- Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini said that the government's goal is that not a single drop of dirty water should be discharged into the Yamuna river by the end of the year 2027. For this, all the departments should work together and wherever necessary, new industrial wastewater treatment plants, sewage treatment plants should be installed.
Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini was reviewing the work being done by various departments to make the Yamuna river pollution-free during a meeting held at the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Friday. He said that currently 91 STPs of 1543 MLD capacity are being operated in the Yamuna catchment area to clean the water going into the Yamuna. As per the requirement, 11 new STPs are being prepared which will increase the water purification capacity.
Pollution Control Board Chairman J. Ganesan told the meeting that some industrial units are not running industrial wastewater treatment plants to save costs and polluted water is being released, while at many places cases of industrial units releasing polluted wastewater through tankers into village ponds have also come to light. On this, the Chief Minister said that strict action should be taken against such units and it should be ensured that every industry discharges the wastewater generated in its place into drains only after treating it.
The Chief Minister said that wastewater treatment centers should be set up on all the 11 major drainages leading to Yamuna so that every drop of wastewater discharged from industries goes into the Yamuna river only after being treated. For this, CSR money can also be spent as per the requirement.
The Chief Minister said that 8 new CETPs of 147.5 MLD capacity will be set up in the Yamuna Catchment Area. Among these, construction work of a plant of 19.5 MLD is in progress in Faridabad's Pratapgarh, Mirzapur and Badshahpur, in Sector 18, Sector 34 and Sector 37 of Gurugram and in Parvalu of Yamunanagar. The Chief Minister directed the officials to complete the land acquisition and other construction work for the water purification plants on priority basis soon.
In the meeting, Pollution Control Board officials said that 211 MLD of untreated water comes to Haryana through some drains in Delhi, which is treated by Haryana and sent back to Delhi. The Chief Minister said that in this matter, a meeting will be held with the Chief Minister of Delhi to resolve this issue so that only treated water is poured into the Yamuna by Delhi.
