66yearold woman suffering from breathing problems gets new life
Hoshiarpur- A 66-year-old woman suffering from breathing problems got a new life from Advanced Gastroenterology Care at Livasa Hospital. Giving information, Gastroenterology Consultant Dr Pulkit Dhiman said that the woman was taken to Livasa with severe breathing problems. An external chest CT scan revealed fluid and pus accumulation in the lungs, and a chest tube was inserted to remove the infection.
To find out the root cause, a contrast-enhanced chest CT scan was once again done at Livasa Hospital. In which an abnormal connection between the food pipe (esophagus) and the windpipe (trachea) was found. Which is a serious condition. Which is called esophageal-tracheal fistula. Such abnormalities are rare and require advanced specialized intervention.
An UG I endoscopy performed at Livasa confirmed an opening in the esophagus at a depth of 28 cm. After extensive counseling with the patient’s attendant, a specialized Covered Self-Expanding Stent (CSEMS) was successfully placed in the esophagus. This sealed the abnormal connection and helped the patient recover.
Dr. Dhiman said, “Managing such complex cases requires precision, teamwork and a constant search for the best outcome for our patients.”
