62yearold woman able to walk after complex total knee replacement
Mohali: A 62-year-old woman suffering from severe osteoarthritis for several years underwent a successful complex total knee replacement at Max Hospital, Mohali.
Rajinder Kaur had been living with knee pain and stiffness for almost a decade. Over the years, her condition gradually worsened, making her completely dependent on her family for daily activities as she was unable to walk without support. Despite several treatments and physiotherapy sessions at local centres, her pain persisted, and her mobility deteriorated significantly.
Upon arrival at Max Hospital, Mohali, a detailed clinical evaluation and examination revealed advanced osteoarthritis, deformity and very limited mobility in both knee joints, said Dr. Ajay Bhambri, Director, Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement at Max.
Considering the complexity and impact on her quality of life, Dr. Ajay Bhambri and his team decided on a Total Knee Replacement.
Speaking about the case, Dr. Ajay Bhambri said, “This was a particularly difficult case due to the patient’s advanced osteoarthritis and stiffness in both knees. Our aim was not just to replace the joints, but to help her regain her independence and confidence. The surgery went well, and she was able to stand and walk with support the very next day.
After the surgery, the patient showed excellent recovery and was discharged within 2 days, within a few days she was able to walk independently. It was very satisfying to see her walking again after years of pain.”
