51 Cases Registered and 73 Accused Arrested Under Campaign Against Drugs

Sangrur, May 18:- Dr. Ravjot Grewal, SSP Sangrur, while brief the press, stated that the Sangrur District Police has taken major action during its ongoing campaigns "War Against Drugs" and "Guardians of Villages" (Pindan De Paheredar). From May 9, 2026, to May 17, 2026, the police registered 38 drug-related cases, arrested 58 accused, and recovered 432 grams of heroin, 40 kg of poppy husky, 10 intoxicating injections, and 1173 intoxicating tablets.
In the crackdown against the illicit liquor trade, 13 cases were registered and 15 accused were arrested. The police recovered 316.500 liters of country-made liquor, 37.500 liters of illicit liquor, 6.750 liters of English liquor, and 200 liters of Lahan (raw material used for distilling liquor).
Additionally, 02 cases were registered under the Arms Act, leading to the arrest of 02 accused from whom 03 country-made pistols and 04 live cartridges were recovered. One case was registered under the Gambling Act, resulting in the arrest of one individual and the recovery of 830 rupees. During this period, 03 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) were also apprehended.
Furthermore, 08 accused involved in thefts and robberies in the jurisdiction of Bhawanigarh Police Station were arrested, and 14 kg 500 grams of copper along with 5000 rupees were recovered from them. In another significant action, Moonak Police froze property worth 2,70,000 rupees belonging to a drug smuggler.
An appeal was made to the general public to actively support the anti-drug campaign. The police are raising awareness among the public about the ill effects of drugs by holding coordinate meetings with village panchayats, sports clubs, and prominent citizens. During this timeframe, various gazetted officers and station house officers conducted awareness meetings across 35 villages and towns.
Motivating residents to share information about drug smugglers so that this social evil can be eradicated completely. Strict measures are being taken against anti-social elements, and the war against drugs continues.
