13 schoolchildren killed five others in critical condition minibus and truck collided

Johannesburg: A minibus and a truck collided south of Johannesburg, South Africa, killing 13 schoolchildren. The incident took place in the industrial city of Vanderbijlpark, a South African broadcaster said. Five other students are in critical condition in the accident. It is worth noting that road accidents are common in South Africa.
According to government figures released last week, 11,418 people died in road accidents in the country last year, which is 6% less than the number in 2024. The Ministry of Transport says that road accidents are mostly caused by speeding and drunk driving. Last week, Transport Minister Barbara Creasey said that in view of these accidents, it is time to change the rules to eliminate the current legal alcohol limit while driving.
