12 percent increase in subsidy on fertilizers for Rabi season
New Delhi:- The Union Cabinet has increased the subsidy on phosphatic and potash (P&K) fertilizers by 12 percent to Rs 41,534 crore for Rabi season 2026 to provide relief to farmers from the increase in global prices due to the ongoing tension in West Asia. In the last Rabi season, the government had given a subsidy of Rs 37,216 crore on these fertilizers.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this decision was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This fertilizer subsidy will be applicable for the period from April 1 to September 30, 2026. The Union Cabinet has also approved the second phase of the Jaipur Metro project.
Under this project, a 41 km long line will be laid which will include 36 stations and its total cost will be more than Rs 13 thousand crore. During the meeting, a total investment of Rs 40,150 crore has been approved for the construction of two important hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The government is taking this step to give impetus to the development of renewable energy and regional infrastructure. The estimated construction period of this project is eight years.
