12 Acres of Land Lead to Tragedy Grandson Kills Grandfather
Karnal, June 25: A family dispute over the division of 12 acres of land turned deadly in Bada village, Karnal district. On Thursday afternoon, a young man shot and killed his own grandfather. After committing the crime, the accused fled on a motorcycle while brandishing the weapon. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Darshan Singh. Preliminary investigations reveal a long-standing dispute between Darshan Singh and his grandson, Sonu, regarding land division. Sonu lived in a separate house with his mother, as his father had already passed away.
According to the police, around 12:30 PM on Thursday, Sonu took his grandfather, Darshan Singh, on his motorcycle to an enclosure near their home. It is reported that he had already hidden a weapon there. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the sounds of an argument and a scuffle between the two coming from the enclosure. Suddenly, Sonu opened fire on his grandfather; four consecutive gunshots were heard.
A bullet struck Darshan Singh in the chest, causing him to collapse on the spot with severe injuries. He succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
The investigation also revealed that after the incident, the accused fled through the village lanes on his motorcycle. He later abandoned the bike in Budhakhera village and escaped. Police teams are actively searching for the accused.
DSP Satish Gautam stated that the land dispute is considered the primary motive for the murder based on the initial investigation. The police are examining all aspects of the case, and efforts to arrest the accused are underway.
According to family members, there had been long-standing tension within the family regarding the division of the land. An atmosphere of grief and tension prevails in the village following the incident. The police have stepped up security in the area.
