12320 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Wheat Procured from State Mandis Harchand Singh Barsat
S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), May 11, 2026– The Rabi season 2026-27 has reached its final phase, and the wheat procurement process in the state's mandis (grain markets) is being completed at a rapid pace. Thanks to the robust arrangements made in the mandis under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, 123.20 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been procured so far, and payments for the produce are being disbursed directly into the farmers' bank accounts. These observations were shared by the Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, S. Harchand Singh Barsat.
Providing details in this regard, S. Barsat stated that 123.50 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have arrived in the mandis to date, out of which 123.20 lakh metric tonnes have been procured. Government agencies have procured 121.61 lakh metric tonnes of wheat; specifically, Pungrain procured 39,90,264 metric tonnes, the FCI procured 2,55,561 metric tonnes, Markfed procured 31,25,455 metric tonnes, Punsup procured 28,30,814 metric tonnes, and the Warehouse Corporation procured 19,58,799 metric tonnes. Additionally, 1,59,172 metric tonnes of wheat have been procured by private entities.
The Chairman further informed that 97.16 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have already been lifted (transported) from the mandis. Payments amounting to approximately ?29,932 crore have been made to the farmers. He stated that on May 10, 29,394 metric tonnes of wheat arrived in the state's mandis (markets), and 33,605 metric tonnes were procured, while 3.07 lakh metric tonnes of wheat were lifted. During the Rabi season of 2026-27, wheat procurement was conducted at rates ranging from ?2,585 to ?2,660 per quintal.
He affirmed that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, always stands firmly with the farmers. Robust arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of wheat procurement operations in the state's mandis throughout the season. Thanks to the proper provisions made for sanitation, drinking water, restrooms, shade, seating, and other amenities within the mandis, no one—including farmers, *Arhtiyas* (commission agents), and laborers—has faced any difficulties.
S. Harchand Singh Barsat expressed his gratitude to the *Arhtiyas*, laborers, farmers, the Mandi Board/Market Committees, and all officials and employees of various agencies who made significant contributions toward ensuring the smooth execution of procurement operations in the mandis.
