Chandigarh: 11th September, 2025- The Department of Production and Industrial Engineering (PIED), Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organized a “Product Design Exhibition” featuring projects by the students of Bachelor of Design (B.Des). The exhibition was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Prof. R.S. Walia, Dr. Shagun Sharma, Dr. Vaibhao Athaley, and Dr. Md. Tayyab, and was specially curated for the visiting students of NIFT, Panchkula.
The exhibition showcased a wide array of innovative projects such as REKHA (a healthcare wristband for self-mutilation patients), Nighthaven (a sleeping bag for pavement dwellers), LAP-PAD and a Board Game (for autistic and visually impaired children), and Kheti Bazar app (for farmers). These projects reflected the students’ creativity, design thinking, and a user-centric approach that seeks to address pressing real-world needs while inspiring fresh perspectives in product design.
Attendees and faculty members from NIFT, Panchkula – Mr. Abhinav Garg and Ms. Marisha Narula – engaged with the young designers and gained insights into their creative processes and outcomes. The visiting NIFT students were also hosted for an educational tour of the Siemens Centre (Centre of Excellence) at PEC, which included detailed demonstrations in the Product Design, CNC, Robotics, and Mechatronics Labs under the mentorship of Prof. R.S. Walia, Head, Siemens Centre. The NIFT faculty and students extended their gratitude to Prof. R.M. Belokar, Head, PIED and Dr. R. Kanda, Head, Alumni Relations, PEC for their support and hospitality.
The exhibition and the educational tour were very well-received by all visitors and concluded as a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) students at PEC.
