Caracas:- US President Donald Trump has made a surprise announcement and said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been captured by US security forces during a major operation.
According to Trump, the US military launched a large-scale attack on Venezuela and its leader, after which Maduro has been captured and taken out of the country. Sharing information on social media, Trump also said that Maduro’s wife has also been detained in this operation.
In fact, the Venezuelan government has accused the US of targeting several civilian and military institutions in the country early on Saturday. At least seven loud explosions were heard in the capital Caracas around 2 am local time and low-flying aircraft were seen in the sky.
These explosions caused several buildings in the city to shake and smoke was seen rising from military bases. After this attack, President Nicolas Maduro has activated the country's defense system and declared a 'State of External Disturbance' (external disturbance situation) and has appealed to his supporters to take to the streets to oppose this imperialist attack.
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump had already warned of direct action in Venezuela, which he is describing as part of the war on drug trafficking. Maduro says that the US actually wants to change the regime in Venezuela and seize its oil reserves. The incident has reached a peak in tensions between the two countries and has created a war-like situation in the region.
On the other hand, a US official said on Saturday morning that the United States is carrying out attacks inside Venezuela. The official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, did not give details.
