Mohali, October 22:- Under the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme launched by the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, a convoy of three buses departed from the Mohali Assembly constituency for Sri Amritsar Sahib today.
The buses, sent off under the supervision of MLA Kulwant Singh, were jointly flagged off by Phoolraj Singh, Mohali Assembly constituency coordinator for the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, and Engineer Prabhjot Kaur, Chairperson of the District Planning Board, Mohali.
Speaking about the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, state awardee and constituency coordinator Phoolraj Singh said that the buses departed today under the leadership of Rajinder Singh from village Mote Majra, under the guidance of Councillor Gurmukh Singh Sohal from Phase 4, and under the guidance of Councillor Amarjit Singh from Phase 11.
Phoolraj Singh said that the pilgrims would visit Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Durgiana Temple, Ram Tirath Valmiki Temple, Wagah Border and Jallianwala Bagh in Sri Amritsar Sahib before returning to Mohali. He said that senior citizens were showing considerable enthusiasm for the pilgrimage, and the number of people registering for it was continuously increasing.
While interacting with the pilgrims during the flag-off ceremony, Phoolraj Singh said that no previous government had initiated such a pilgrimage keeping the faith and aspirations of senior citizens in mind. He said Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had taken a personal interest in launching the scheme so that every senior citizen could undertake the pilgrimage and make their life spiritually fulfilling.
He said that the Punjab Government takes full care of the pilgrims travelling under the scheme. Proper arrangements have been made for all essential requirements, including food, refreshments and accommodation. A guide also remains available throughout the journey to provide senior citizens with the necessary information about the historical significance of the religious places they visit.
Phoolraj Singh said that the pilgrims thank Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the initiative. After returning from the pilgrimage, they also regularly call MLA Kulwant Singh to express their gratitude for the arrangements.
He said that successive governments had made promises and claims to the people of Punjab, but these were not implemented. In contrast, he said, the Aam Aadmi Party government had fulfilled the guarantees and promises made to the people by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal when they presented their commitments before the public. He added that after fulfilling each guarantee, the government had further accelerated the pace of Punjab’s development.
He said that large-scale construction of sports stadiums was underway in the Mohali Assembly constituency to help steer young people away from drug abuse and encourage them to participate in sports. The Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government was providing the necessary sports equipment and qualified coaches so that young people could hone their sporting skills and bring honour to their parents and Punjab at national and international levels.
Speaking to journalists, Phoolraj Singh, constituency coordinator for the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, said that the happiness and satisfaction visible on the faces of senior citizens as their buses departed for Sri Amritsar Sahib was truly heartwarming. He said this clearly reflected the public-welfare work being carried out by every Aam Aadmi Party worker and supporter.
