Chandigarh, October 20, 2026 (Harminder Nagpal):- Punjab Governor and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, today attended Vijayadashami celebrations in Sectors 17, 46 and 48 of Chandigarh and performed the ritual of burning Ravana’s effigy. On the occasion, he recalled the message of the victory of good over evil and appealed to people to stay away from drugs and actively contribute towards making Chandigarh drug-free.
Addressing the Dussehra celebrations, the Governor said the festival teaches us to eliminate inner evils such as anger, greed, hatred, corruption and arrogance. He urged people to adopt the ideals of Lord Shri Ram, including truth, duty, compassion and justice, in their lives.
He said that families, teachers, youth, and social and religious organisations need to work together to tackle the problem of drug abuse. He also emphasised that instead of hating people struggling with addiction, they should be supported through treatment, counselling and rehabilitation.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and social harmony. He appealed to people to respect women, raise their voices against injustice, protect nature and strengthen brotherhood in society.
