Mahilpur, November 16:- The Post Graduate Punjabi Department of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Mahilpur, under the management of the Sikh Educational Council, organized a special lecture dedicated to the 350th martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji under the leadership of the Principal of the College, Dr. Parvinder Singh and the supervision of the Head of the Punjabi Department, Dr. J.B. Sekhon. Sikh thinker Prof. Avtar Singh Phagwara participated as the main speaker in this lecture on the topic ‘Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur and its Contemporary Relevance’.
On this occasion, the treasurer of the Sikh Educational Council, Virinder Sharma, Prof. Dr. Parvinder Singh, Prof. Ajit Langeri and Dr. Jagtar participated in the presidium. College Principal Dr. Parvinder Singh, while sharing his welcome remarks for the dignitaries present, said that the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was a unique event in Indian history which gave the message of human freedom and universal welfare to the whole world.
On this occasion, the main speaker Prof. Avtar Singh, during his lecture, mentioned important contexts of Sikh history, Sikh movement and Gurmat ideology. He narrated the events related to the birth, childhood, Udasis and martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with the reference of books of various historians. He shared important thoughts about the tradition of sacrifice of Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur for the message of universal welfare and universal solidarity in Sikh thought.
He said that the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji has given a new turn to Sikh history and this sacrifice has inspired man to raise his voice against freedom of expression of ideas and all kinds of fanaticism. The audience showed great interest in this lecture given with reference to the sources of creation of Sikh history. Dr. Jagtar shared his words about the overall impact of the event and congratulated the organizers for such an event.
Prof. Ajit Langeri shared his words of gratitude and inspired the students to read as many historical and literary books as possible. On this occasion, the organizers honored the speaker Avtar Singh with a set of books and a badge of honor. The proceedings of the stage were conducted by the Head of the Department, Dr. J. B. Sekhon.
