Karnal, 02 June: Under the directions of the Superintendent of Police, Karnal, and as part of a special campaign against illegal drug smugglers being run by the district police, the CIA-2 team has achieved a major success by arresting an accused with a large quantity of illegal poppy husk.
Giving information in this regard, CIA-2 In-charge Inspector Praveen Kumar stated that a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Kuldeep Kumar was on patrol. During this time, acting on secret information, the police team apprehended the accused, Sukhdev, son of Mahendra, a resident of Karn Vihar, Karnal, from the Green Belt Sector-4 area. Upon conducting a search as per the rules, 13 kilograms 477 grams of illegal poppy husk was recovered from the accused's possession.
The investigating officer stated that in the said case, another associate of the accused, Balwinder Singh, son of Richpal, a resident of village Saukda, Police Station Tarawari, District Karnal, had been arrested earlier. During the search, 05 kilograms 695 grams of illegal poppy husk were recovered from his possession.
The recovered narcotics were taken into police custody, and a case was registered against the accused at Police Station Tarawari under case number 186/2026, under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
The investigating officer stated that during preliminary interrogation, the accused, Balwinder Singh, revealed that he had purchased the said narcotics from his associate, Sukhdev. Taking swift action in the matter, the team arrested the accused, Sukhdev, and presented him in the honorable court today, from where his 4-day police remand was obtained.
Further investigation is underway during the remand to identify other accused involved in this illegal drug smuggling network and to obtain information regarding the supply chain through intensive interrogation.
