Santoshgarh/Una, April 1 (Rajveer Chopra): Under the guidelines of the Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission, the reservation list for the wards of six municipal bodies in District Una has been released. In this same sequence, the reservation roster for the 9 wards of the Santoshgarh Municipal Council has also been announced, a development that has intensified political activity in the local arena.
According to the released roster, Ward Number 3 has been reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) women, while Ward Number 2 will remain reserved for the SC category. Additionally, Wards Number 1, 6, 7, and 9 have been declared reserved for women.
Meanwhile, Wards Number 4, 5, and 8 have been kept unreserved. Thus, due to the 50 percent reservation for women, 5 out of the 9 wards have been reserved for women this time around.
The implementation of the reservation roster has dealt a blow to the electoral aspirations of several potential candidates. In particular, those male candidates who were preparing to contest elections from these specific wards now find themselves out of the race.
Interestingly, Wards Number 4 and 5—which possess a higher SC population—have been declared unreserved this time due to the roster process; conversely, the application of SC reservation in Wards 2 and 3 has led to a significant shift in political equations.
While the new reservation scheme has dashed the hopes of many long-standing contenders, it has simultaneously posed a challenge for political parties, who must now select new candidates from the reserved categories.
Activity in the region has intensified in anticipation of the upcoming municipal body elections, and all political parties have begun earnestly formulating their strategies.
