Hoshiarpur, October 3 (Daljit Ajnoha):- Office-bearers of the Rice Millers Association submitted a memorandum to former Member of Parliament and senior BJP leader Shri Avinash Rai Khanna regarding the serious problems being faced by rice millers during the paddy procurement season 2026-27. The memorandum sought immediate resolution of issues related to paddy procurement, storage and delivery of rice, besides measures to save the rice milling industry from financial crisis.

On the occasion, the association informed Khanna that rice millers in Punjab undertake the responsibility of storing paddy every year, keeping in view the interests of farmers and commission agents, but under the prevailing circumstances, it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to run their businesses. The association said that if their problems are not resolved in time, the future of the rice milling industry could face a serious crisis. The association demanded that adequate storage space be made available for rice. Around 35,000 to 40,000 racks of rice from this year’s crop are still pending delivery. Due to inadequate storage space with the Food Corporation of India, millers are facing difficulties. In such a situation, storing new paddy has become an economic risk for them. The association demanded that the government provide a written guarantee of adequate storage space by March 31 and clarify the policy regarding concessions in rice recovery in case of delay.

Khanna assured the association that with the help of the Central Government, he would make every possible effort to get the problems of rice millers resolved. On the occasion, Rice Millers Association District President Shri Sanjeev Nayyar, Patron Shri Paramjit Singh Motia, Senior Vice President Shri Virendra Aggarwal and General Secretary Shri Mandeep Singh Mani were also present.
