Chandigarh:- According to the weather department’s report, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect north-western India from October 24, bringing the possibility of rainfall at some places in Punjab and Haryana.

According to a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department on Wednesday, light rain is likely at a few isolated places on October 24 and 25. The rainfall is expected after a dry spell that has continued across the region for the past 10 days.

The bulletin stated that, apart from the anticipated western disturbance, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is persisting over northern Haryana and adjoining areas at an altitude of 1,500 metres above mean sea level.

On October 24, rainfall is expected in the south-western parts of Punjab and areas of western Haryana, while on October 25, rain is likely in northern Punjab and some other parts of western Haryana.

During the past 24 hours, both daytime and night-time temperatures in the two states remained normal.

Although both states faced a significant rainfall deficit during the first week of the month, a spell of rain over the following few days improved the situation. As a result, monthly rainfall rose to 231 per cent above normal in Punjab and 169 per cent above normal in Haryana.

Except for Moga and Tarn Taran districts in Punjab, rainfall so far this month has been above the long-period average in all other areas. In Haryana, Rewari, Mahendragarh and Bhiwani districts have recorded a rainfall deficit.

Among Punjab’s districts, Rupnagar (Ropar), Gurdaspur and Pathankot received the highest rainfall during October. In Haryana, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Sonipat and Panchkula recorded the highest rainfall.
