Nawanshahr:- Rural Workers Union Punjab, while strongly condemning the anti-people laws being brought one after another by the central government, District President Kamaljit Sanawa, Hari Ram Rasoolpur, Kiranjit Kaur, Area President Surinder Mirpur said that the anti-worker changes made in the labor laws and now by bringing the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and the Web-G Ram Ji Act, not only is the name of MGNREGA being changed, but the anti-worker amendments made in it are not only being made to deprive the working class of employment under this law but also to cool the hearts of the working people.
In opposition to this, effigies were burnt across Punjab against the above three anti-worker black laws and the central government in villages Punnu Majara, Sahabpur, Sanawa. On this occasion, the leaders said that under the privatization policies, rural and farm laborers, who were suffering from immense unemployment, were already being given meager employment under MGNREGA, but now the Modi government is going to enjoy this scheme by reducing the 90 percent budget share of the expenditure on this scheme from the central government to 60 percent and making it a condition that the state governments should contribute 40 percent.
They said that the center has already taken away the rights of the states and made the states dependent on the center. The employment of the laborers will be further undermined by blaming the central and state governments for not raising the MGNREGA budget on each other. They alleged that the central government is passing anti-people laws under the guidelines of imperialist organizations like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund on the budgets spent on public welfare schemes, thereby undermining these schemes.
The labor leaders said that the instruction to stop the work of MGNREGA for two months during the agricultural season is an attempt to please the landlords and landowners by providing labor power at cheap rates. The announcement of stopping work for 60 days during the crop season and giving 125 days instead of 100 days is just a hoax. The labor leaders also alleged that by changing the name of MGNREGA to "Web-Ji Ram Ji", the Modi government wants to speed up the implementation of the ideological communal agenda of the RSS and BJP like the saying "Muh chon Ram Ram te bagal mein churi".
In this direction, the 29 labor laws obtained through struggles have been changed and four labor codes pro-corporate houses and employers have been brought. They called on all rural laborers and industrial workers to unite and struggle.
District President of the Rural Workers Union Kamaljit Sanwa and District Secretary Hari Ram also announced that the struggle against this step of the central government will be intensified and a strong voice will be raised to withdraw this step during the sit-ins being held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's offices on January 7 regarding the legitimate labor demands.
