Chandigarh, December 26, 2025:- Dedicated to the memory of the incomparable martyrdom of the younger Sahibzade and Mata Gujar Kaur Ji, the second district-level Gatka tournament organized by Gatka Association District SAS Nagar and Sarb Sanjha Welfare Society witnessed fierce and intense competitions of martial arts. Khalsa Sewa Dal Gatka Akhara Mohali emerged victorious in the heritage competitions held at the ground near Gurdwara Nanak Darbar in Sector-91 under the leadership of Gatka Association of Punjab. Misl Shaheedan Gatka Akhara secured second place while Mata Sahib Dewa Gatka Akhara (girls) secured third place.
In the girls' Soti-Fari (individual) competitions, Ishpreet Kaur secured first and Harmanpreet Kaur secured second place. In this category, Inderjit Singh won first place and Baghel Singh won second place.
On this occasion, the final competition of Shastra Kala was inaugurated by the Constituency MLA Sardar Kulwant Singh in the presence of Phool Raj Singh, Chairman of the International Affairs Directorate of the World Gatka Federation, Advocate Harjit Singh Grewal, President of the National Gatka Association of India and all the office bearers of the society.
In his address, Sardar Kulwant Singh mentioned the unparalleled martyrdom of the Sahibzadey and inspired the Sangat to follow the path shown by the Guru Sahib, preserve the Bani and heritage and to make the children aware of the history of the Guru as much as possible in order to continue the spirit of service. He appreciated the religious competitions organized by the said society at the Gurdwara Sahib and asked the parents present to include as many children as possible in such competitions next year.
Giving this information, the president of the society and former councilor Phul Raj Singh said that in this annual tournament, the Gatka Singhs of 9 Gatka teams of the district performed the martial art better. He said that to further promote this heritage game abroad, to connect children with Bana and Sikhism and to form maximum Gatka teams, Gatka federations are being formed in different countries. He announced on behalf of the management committee of Gurdwara Sahib and the society that soon a Gatka Akhara will be started at Gurdwara Nanak Darbar under the supervision of an expert Gatka coach.
On this occasion, Gatka promoter Grewal shed light on the Gatka game and said that there is no place for stunts and gambling in this weaponry inherited by Guru Sahib, so all Gatka Akharas and Gatka Singhs should stay away from such stunts.
Apart from others, Harsimran Singh Bal DSP, Rajinder Singh Sidhu President Resident Welfare Society Sector 90-91, Kuldeep Singh Samana, RP Sharma and Harpal Singh Channa (both former MC), Amarjit Singh Sector 94, Gurdeep Singh Tiwana, Gurmeet Singh, Nihal Singh, Gurbir Singh, Palwinder Singh Goraya, Vikramjit Singh, Harpal Singh, Jasminder Singh, Harpreet Singh Sarao and Dildeep Singh etc. were also present on this occasion.
On this occasion, Harsimran Singh, Shari Singh, Narinderpal Singh, Pardeep Singh, Anmolpreet Kaur, Monica, Jagpreet Singh and Harpreet Kaur served in the judgment team.
