Islamabad: Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has threatened India regarding the status of the Indus Waters Treaty. Speaking to the Pakistani channel ARY News, Asif stated that if Pakistan perceives any threat to its water security, it could resort to war against India.
He alleged that India is interfering with the flow of water allocated to Pakistan and is using it as a strategic weapon. However, he also admitted that he was not fully aware of all the latest developments regarding this matter over the past year.
India had suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025, in which 26 people were killed. India maintains that the treaty will not be restored until Pakistan takes concrete and effective action against cross-border terrorism.
