Karnal, December 30: A one-day orientation program on the topic of 'Safe Schools - Safe Villages' was organized here at Karn Lake for Panch and Sarpanches by the Breakthrough organization.
On this occasion, Protection Officer Suman Nain spoke about child safety and informed that special centers have been opened at the district level for the safety of adolescents and women. The objective of these centers is to protect women and children from violence, exploitation, and other social evils. If anyone receives information about violence or abuse against a woman in their vicinity, they can inform the police by calling 112.
She stated that cases of child marriage are still being reported in society, which is a matter of serious concern. She explained that not only the parents but also everyone involved in a child marriage—such as those providing sweets, setting up tents, providing clothes, or assisting in any way—can face legal action.
She informed the Panch and Sarpanches about the Child Protection Committee at the village level, stating that its main objective is to ensure the safety of women and children in the village, prevent child marriages, and monitor any cases of violence or exploitation.
Mrs. Nain said that awareness campaigns should be conducted to make the village safe. Nowadays, incidents of sexual abuse against girls are being observed. Through such campaigns, people can be informed about the law.
Poonam Sheoran from the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) provided detailed information about the POCSO Act. She said that the law aims to protect children under 18 years of age from sexual offenses. It provides for strict punishment for crimes committed against children.
Manager Kamala highlighted the activities of the Breakthrough organization. A professor from a women's college shared her views on skill education for women. Sarpanch Sunil Kumar, Gram Sachiv Vijender, Mukesh, Rajiv, Shivani, Kuldeep, and others participated in the program.
