Chandigarh, September 30:- In the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, an MoU was signed between the Swarn Jayanti Haryana Institute for Fiscal Management (SJHIFM) and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, during the inaugural session of the national conference organized on Wednesday for strengthening ‘Haryana’s Own Tax-Revenue System’. This agreement will prove to be an important initiative towards strengthening academic research, policy studies and evidence-based policymaking in Haryana.
Dr. Raj Nehru on behalf of SJHIFM and Vice Chancellor Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva on behalf of Kurukshetra University exchanged the MoU. The main objective of the MoU is to establish SJHIFM as an extramural research centre of Kurukshetra University, where doctoral research can be undertaken in fiscal management, public policy, budget allocation aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), data-driven governance and other related interdisciplinary areas. This arrangement will be subject to the applicable regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the university.
Under this collaboration, researchers will have the opportunity to undertake their core research work at SJHIFM while also benefiting from the academic expertise and research environment of Kurukshetra University. Both institutions will also promote joint research projects, policy studies, publications, working papers, conferences, seminars and other academic and policy-oriented activities in areas of mutual interest.
Under the MoU, eligible SJHIFM researchers and faculty members may also be considered for recognition as PhD supervisors through the prescribed academic process of Kurukshetra University. Registered researchers will be able to use the relevant research facilities, datasets and knowledge resources of both institutions, subject to the required permissions and confidentiality arrangements. The MoU was coordinated by Prof. R.S. Rathore, Advisor, SJHIFM. His efforts made an important contribution towards taking forward this institutional collaboration between the two institutions.
This initiative is an important step towards developing a strong research ecosystem in Haryana. It will promote evidence-based knowledge for effective governance, sound fiscal management, sustainable development and better public policymaking.
