Maur Mandi, October 3 (Chamkour Singh Kairves):- A major development has emerged in Punjab politics, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) taking action to maintain party discipline. The AAP high command has suspended Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana, its MLA from the Maur Assembly constituency, from the party with immediate effect. The sudden decision taken by the party today has sparked discussion in political circles.

According to information received, senior AAP leaders and the party's disciplinary committee have levelled serious allegations against Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana of involvement in anti-party activities. The party has made it clear that violation of party rules or anti-party activities by any leader or MLA will not be tolerated, irrespective of seniority. It is on this basis that action has been taken against Maiserkhana.

Meanwhile, in a video that went viral today, MLA Maiserkhana raised the issue of a shortage of teachers in schools and criticised his own party, saying emotionally in the video that nobody was listening to him and that he had always been sidelined.

It is pertinent to mention that Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections from the Maur Assembly constituency on an AAP ticket and won the election, entering the Assembly for the first time as an MLA. After his victory, he continued working in his area to advance the party's policies.

During 2026 as well, he remained active as an AAP MLA. In March 2026, he came into discussion when media reports stated that his children were studying in government schools. The move was appreciated by the party as well as the general public and was viewed as an initiative that could strengthen confidence in the government education system.

However, for some time, indications had reportedly been emerging from internal party sources that differences existed between Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana and the party high command on certain issues. Following these differences and complaints of anti-party activities, the party decided to take this action. For now, the AAP has cited anti-party activities as the reason for suspending him, while no official statement from Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana has so far emerged on the matter. It remains to be seen what statement Maiserkhana gives in his defence in the coming days.
