Haroli/Una, April 14 (Rajveer Chopra): "Fire Week" is being observed at the Tahliwal Fire Post from April 14 to April 20. To mark this occasion, the staff of the Tahliwal Fire Post organized an exhibition of firefighting equipment on April 14 and paid homage to martyred firefighters. During the program, a two-minute silence was observed to honor the brave martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, officials recounted that on April 14, 1944—during the Bombay Dock Explosion—a massive blast occurred at approximately 4:40 PM aboard a large cargo ship docked at Victoria Dock in Mumbai. The ship was carrying approximately 1,200 tons of explosives, oil, and other flammable materials. In this horrific tragedy, 66 firefighters sacrificed their lives while striving to protect lives and property.
Furthermore, in 2009, a massive fire at an industrial unit in Nalagarh claimed the lives of nine people, a toll that included the martyrdom of two personnel from the Fire Department.
Throughout Fire Week, the public will be sensitized regarding fire prevention, safety protocols, and the importance of remaining vigilant during emergencies. The department will endeavor to raise fire safety awareness among the general public through mock drills, awareness campaigns, and demonstrations of firefighting equipment conducted at various locations.
