Hoshiarpur, September 7:- Under ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian-2026, Season-4’, being organized by the Sports Department of the Punjab Government, block-level sports competitions began today in various blocks of the district. On the first day, players participated enthusiastically in various sports, including athletics, kho-kho, kabaddi (circle style), kabaddi (national style), volleyball (shooting and smashing) and football.
District Sports Officer Hoshiarpur Surjit Singh said that the block-level sports competitions are being held from September 7 to 9. Around 1,500 players participated in the district on the first day, reflecting the growing enthusiasm among youth for sports.
At the Government Senior Secondary School in village Bohan of Block Hoshiarpur-2, the sports competitions were inaugurated by Chabbewal MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar as the chief guest. In the Under-21 athletics 100-metre race, Gopi secured first place, Jaskaran Singh second and Harmandeep Singh third.
At the Government Senior Secondary School of Block Garhshankar, the sports competitions were inaugurated by Charanjit Singh Channi, OSD to Punjab Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Rouri. SDM Garhshankar Sanjeev Kumar was also present on the occasion. In the Under-17 boys' 100-metre race, Rohit Sharma secured first place, Harjap Singh second and Tushar Chaudhary third.
At Giani Kartar Singh Memorial College in Block Tanda, Tanda MLA Jasbir Singh Raja inaugurated the sports competitions. In the Under-14 girls' 600-metre race, Deepika secured first place, Manvi Saini second and Manreet Kaur third.
Similarly, at the camp ground in Block Mukerian, Mukerian constituency in-charge Sarabjit Singh Sabi inaugurated the sports competitions. In the 800-metre race for boys in the Under-21 to 30-year age group, Sahilpreet Singh secured first place, Rahul Singh second and Manhardeep Singh third. In the Under-17 boys' volleyball competition, the team of Government Senior Secondary School Harse Kalota secured first place, Hardo Khundpur second and Harse Mansar Club third.
The District Sports Officer said that the objective of ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ is to connect the youth of the state with sports, provide a platform for their talent and create a healthy environment filled with sportsmanship.
