Kharar (Davinder Kaur Sahota), October 15:- Kharar city observed a complete shutdown today in response to the bandh call given by various organisations across Punjab to protest the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota. Markets and shops across the city remained closed. At the Kharar bus stand, various farmers’, religious and left-wing organisations, along with the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Akali Dal Amritsar, held a protest sit-in and raised slogans against the Punjab government.

On the occasion, farmer leaders Jaspal Singh, Davinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh Khunni Majra, along with Communist leader Harmel Singh, said that the Punjab government had failed to eliminate drugs from the state. They said it was the government's responsibility to ensure the safety of people who raise their voices against drugs, but incidents involving the murder of such people were creating serious concern in society.

The leaders said the broad-daylight murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa raised serious questions about the law-and-order situation in the state. They demanded strict action against those accused in the case and called for severe punishment under the law for those involved in the drug trade.

Questioning the Punjab government's anti-drug campaign, the leaders said that although the government claimed to be eliminating drugs, the ground reality appeared to be different. They alleged that the drug problem in the state was becoming more serious rather than declining.

The leaders urged the government to take concrete steps to eradicate the drug trade at its roots, take strict action against drug traffickers and ensure the safety of the lives and property of the people of Punjab.
