Tel Aviv/Tehran/Washington DC: Twenty-eight days after the Iran-Israel war, the Houthi rebels have now joined the fray. Israel launched an airstrike inside Iran with 50 fighter jets. According to the Israeli military, weapons factories and nuclear facilities were targeted in three areas of Iran on Friday night.
The military said the strikes were based on intelligence and lasted for several hours. The attacks targeted key areas such as Arak and Yazd. The targets included a military industry that manufactures weapons and a factory that makes ballistic and aircraft missile parts.
In addition, the heavy water plant in Arak, which Israel says is crucial for producing plutonium for nuclear weapons, was also attacked. The plant in Yazd, which produces explosive materials needed for uranium enrichment, was also targeted.
Meanwhile, Iran fired six ballistic missiles and 29 drones at Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base on Friday night. At least 15 soldiers were injured in the attack, five of them seriously.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Iran claims that more than 93,000 civilian sites have been damaged in airstrikes during the ongoing war.
According to media reports, the affected sites included 71,547 residential homes and 20,779 businesses. In the capital Tehran alone, 31,562 homes and shops were damaged.
In addition, the attacks have affected essential services. According to officials, 295 health and emergency centers and 600 schools have been damaged. 48 emergency vehicles, 46 ambulances and three rescue helicopters used in relief and rescue operations were also damaged.
